Fury represents the point at which witnessing becomes unbearable. The figure is screaming, but there is no sound. The word ENOUGH marks the moment when disbelief can no longer remain passive. Her blue eyes remain: the fury has not erased the innocence. She is still the child.

There comes a point when witnessing becomes unbearable. When protection becomes resistance. When disbelief becomes fury.
The blue eyes remain. The fury has not erased the innocence: she is still the child. The goggles, headphones and green mark continue the series’ language of attempted protection, armor and resistance.
The red facial mark first appeared intuitively earlier in the series and became more deliberate as the paintings developed. Essebes has come to understand it as what gets through — the point where innocence has already been touched by what it should never have had to see.
